New podcast–Comics Corner #3!

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything! Sorry about that, been super busy…lots of exciting new projects in the works. Anyway, what better way to make a big return, than with a new podcast! This is the first standalone Comics Corner podcast (1 and 2 are part of Orren’s A Guide From the Perplexed podcast), in it we discuss All-Star Superman (the comic and the movie), Comic-Con, Black Summer and more. It will be up on iTunes soon, but if you just can’t wait (and really, how could you?) here’s the podcast player below:

Hipster Superheroes

This is hilarious!  Though, I must say, Professor X is one cruel, cruel bastard at the end…

A Guide From the Perplexed Podcast

Need something to listen to on your drive to work tomorrow and at the same time answer the question that I know has been burning up your brain, namely “what does the Nerdette sound like?”  No? You haven’t been wondering, not even the tiniest little bit?  Well, whatever, check out the Orren’s new podcast A Guide From the Perplexed anyway.

I was a guest this episode, so you can hear me natter on about Karma Kat and Dogma, my drawing process and the Walking Dead.  And check it out in the weeks to come, I think it will be a regular thing where we share reviews of comics, books, geek news and whatever else tickles our fancy.

So go, listen, enjoy: A Guide From the Perplexed Podcast

I need this now…

Yeah, that’s right, it’s a TARDIS iphone speaker dock.  Shown at CES this weekend, apparently should be for sale sometime in spring for around $150.  If it made the vwoorp-vwoorp sound when you connect your iphone, then my life truly would be complete.

A vampire novel you need to read

No sparkles, no angsty teenagers, no weird vampire baby stuff, just a thrilling, emotional, sometimes funny, sometimes creepy story about a vampire trying to survive in a small, quiet town.  If this sounds interesting to you, then you need to check out The Deviant.  Visit Orren’s blog for information on where you can buy it, plus how you can read the first 20 chapters totally free (how can you resist free?!).

How to take over the world

Hey, I’ve read Treasure Island, Robinson Crusoe and Moby Dick–does that mean I can conquer the world too?!

Character creators = super fun way to waste time!

(Note: I promise this post does end up being about character creators, with super fun links and everything…it just takes awhile to get there)

My first day of vacation, and the morning started out with grand plans of being super productive and getting lots of stuff done.  Aaand then the day progressed, and my list of shit that must be done kept getting smaller and smaller and smaller, until it was a list of one–write a blog post.  Shouldn’t be too hard, right?  Well, here’s what happened when I sat down to write…

Turn on computer, load internets, get distracted by messy desktop and decide that I couldn’t possibly do anything until my desktop was organized, rediscover folder of silly animated gifs and spend 30 minutes giggling at them.

Return to internets, open up WordPress, check email and twitter, spend an hour reading about becoming a crackpot theorist (what? It could be useful.) before remembering that my Paypal account has been restricted and I’m annoyed about that.  Spend 45 minutes in pitched battle with Paypal before emerging victorious.

Finally log on to WordPress, stare blankly at the screen for awhile, decide that I absolutely must find out more about making resin jewelry at this moment or else something very terrible might happen, spend more time doing this (hey, it’s pretty cool!).

Stare blankly at the Add New Post screen some more, begin to despair slightly at having nothing to write, remember that conversation I had with Orren earlier about how much I love playing with character generators, open up Heromachine 2.5 and create this stunningly accurate portrait of me:

Feel proud for accomplishing something, then remember that I hadn’t actually accomplished what I set out to do (you know, that pesky blog post), start to close HeroMachine but notice this at the last minute: The HeroMachine Zombie Creator!! Holy crap, I love the internet!  Spend another 20 minutes playing with this, while cackling madly to myself.

Heeheehee! Zombie poodle! Too much awesomeness!

Remember that I still haven’t written anything that could be considered a blog post, stare balefully at the Create New Post page for awhile, decide to google other character creators, be struck by the brilliant idea to make my blog post about character creators, thus totally justifying the last two hours, tell myself I’m just about the most clever person ever, and present to you, dear internets, a list of Character Creators:

Go forth and be unproductive!

    Merry Christmas internets!!

Whatever you celebrate, I hope your day is free from invading snowmen from Pluto! By the way, if you want to read the spectacularly silly story this cover is from (and why wouldn’t you?!?!) it’s right here: Strange Adventures #79.

    A beautiful day

One of the reasons I love living in southern California…after six straight days of rain, today was sunny, 70′s and the world felt fresh and revitalized.  Ran out this morning to do some last minute gift shopping, entering into the pit of chaos that is a mall parking lot on the day before Christmas.  Got back and decided it was far too nice a day to stay inside and I needed a mental cleanse after the shopping trip, so grabbed Luna and took her to the local nature preserve for a walk.  It was perfect!  The park was nearly empty except for birds dancing in the sky, the sun was shining and the landscape was lush and green (well, you know, desert scrub style lush and green).

Hope you’re all having a wonderful Christmas eve too! I know it can be a crazy, stressful day trying to get last minute things done for tomorrow, but try to take at least a moment to reflect, relax and enjoy the wonderful things around you. :)
