It’s good to be prepared

You never know when the zombie apocalypse might strike–it could even happen during Christmas! Good thing the girls at Team Unicorn created this video reminding us how to stay safe from zombies this holiday season…

Rules don’t apply when you’re a cat…

Shadow laughs in the face of “Do Not Step” signs. I mean, he is a cat, after all…pesky little things like rules are meant to be ignored.

This is fantastic and I want one

Not going to lie, this is pretty much the best thing I’ve seen all week.  I was originally going to say something to the effect of “wow my inner 9 year old wants this badly” but then I realized, who the hell am I kidding?  My current 28 year old self wants this just as badly!  It’s a freaking TARDIS fold-out bed!

And it’s for sale on Trade Me, with a current bid (as of time of blogging) of $3221 dollars…oh, and the bed is in New Zealand.  Do you think it lets you travel through time and space while you sleep?

I’m busy, so here’s a Unicornosaurus to keep you company…

Sorry for the Week of No Blog Posts (I know, it’s a scary thing), there’s been much going on at Casa Nerdette and I’m still getting over a cold.  There should be a new, real post sometime in the next couple days.  But because I care, I give you something even better…The Unicornosaurus.  Isn’t it beautiful?

Shameless Promotion–What Would Captain Kirk Do?

It’s an important question, after all.  Haven’t we all, at one time or another, found ourselves in a situation where we just have to stop and wonder, “hmmm, what would Captain Kirk do?”  Or is it just me who does this?

Anyway, if you’re looking for a fun gift for the Star Trek nerds in your life, might I suggest this Nerdette original–the “What Would Captain Kirk Do?” t-shirt…

Because I think that right now, in this situation, Captain Kirk would buy this shirt, probably right after he finished chasing some hot alien tail.  And I speak from personal experience, this shirt is a great conversation starter at conventions (sadly, hot alien tail not part of the package).

Hey look, here’s the link again! What Would Captain Kirk Do Shirt of Boldly Going in Style

Happy Thanksgiving!

One of my favorite holidays–any day where the point is to spend time with loved ones and eat until near bursting is a good day to me.

While The Flash, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern are rounding up the turkey (looks like they have their hands full!) I suggest taking a moment to reflect on what you are most thankful for.  I know I have so much to give thanks for and I want to try harder not to take for granted.  Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go have another slice of pie.

Geek Crafting Tutorial: freezer paper stencils

One of the main staples of my wardrobe is my collection of nerdy t-shirts, and most days I can be found wandering around in jeans and one of my shirts announcing my love of classic sci-fi lit, Star Trek, Doctor Who, comics, zombies, etc. And if you’re anything like me, you know that you can never have too many geek themed t-shirts. But sometimes you just can’t find a shirt with the design you want, or you can’t afford to spend $20+ on that cool Star Trek shirt…and that’s where freezer paper stenciling comes in.

The cool thing about freezer paper stencils is you need very few supplies, and those supplies are cheap and easy to find. And it’s super easy, just somewhat fiddly and annoying (like when you’re 90% done cutting a stencil and you slip and cut the wrong piece, frakking up the whole damn stencil. But I digress…). When you’re done, you have a shirt that’s totally unique and when people stop you on the street (of course they will) and ask you where you got that *awesome* shirt, you get to smile smugly and say “oh this, why I made it.” So let’s get started…

FREEZER PAPER STENCILING

Step 1: Gather your supplies

Comic-Con registration epic fail, in comic form

Nothing like dragging your sleepy ass out of bed at 5:45 in the morning so you can log on to the Comic-Con website at 6:00 to register for passes…and then spending almost 2 1/2 trying to get said passes. I decided the best way to depict this exercise in futility was in comic form, so here it is…

A Mostly Accurate Chronology of My Attempt to Register for Comic-Con

You win this round Comic-Con, but next time…
